The scientific and practical conference “Fundamental Education VS Actual Business Needs” was held on September 16, 2022 in the Leningrad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The representatives of the leading higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg, business schools, business and labour market took part in the meeting.

The conference was attended by Maria Murzina, the head of the IEI’s HR Department. Maria noted: “The primary message of this meeting was that the young generation’s attitude to education is changing towards obtaining optimal soft skills, that is adaptable skills that are important for the carrier but not relevant to professional knowledge and not dependent on the job specifics. As the leading St. Petersburg universities are currently unable to provide a forecast as to what specialists will be in demand at the market in 3–5 years, the teaching community has come to the conclusion that the measurable professional competencies, that is hard skills, are definitely required, but an employee will not be in demand on the labour market without the soft skills”.
